Our Program: Overview

Calmont's curriculum is firmly rooted in reading, listening, oral communication, written expression, mathematics, social studies and science. Further enhancements include music, Spanish, physical education, art, environmental studies, drama, library, computer, and community service. Calmont’s teachers are experienced and well grounded in the disciplines that they teach. Our low teacher/student ratio (maximum 1:20) and recognition of varied learning styles give children the personal attention that they need. The result is happy, engaged children who love learning.

Calmont's community also has an on-going commitment to environmental sustainability, our school theme this year is "Reduce, Reuse, Renew, Recycle, Restore and Reinvent". Our students deepen their understanding of this theme during Environmental Studies classes each week with our staff naturalists .

The program is further enriched by special projects, activities, assemblies, and field trips. Each grade is responsible for presenting an assembly to the rest of the school. These monthly assemblies run the gamut from dramatic presentations and science exhibits to poetry readings and musical performances. Student field trips include overnight trips to Catalina (Middle School) and Sacramento (4th and 5th Grades), and day outings to San Juan Capistrano, the Long Beach Aquarium, the Ronald Reagan Library, the Natural History Museum, and other area museums, theaters, and facilities. Twice a year there is an all school music performance and in June, everyone looks forward to The Young Authors' Fair (K-5th) and the Learning Convention (6th-8th).
